Brand Profile: FREE IDEA

FREE IDEA was formed in the fall of 2007 by Kris Boothroyd, and since then has established a small but extremely loyal fanbase. The idea for the company started when Kris began searching for something to do in his free time after graduating high school, and before starting college. The whole idea behind FREE IDEA is that “all the best ideas end up…in the trash”. The designs are all mocked up on paper by hand, and are inspired by 90’s style fads, robots, old stories, and classic simple looks.

“I like to refer to FREE IDEA as a revival of a lost art, because everyone and their godmother are using design programs or putting loads of cash from loans, etc. I started FREE IDEA by scraping together change and cashing in bottles/cans for their 5-cent deposits.”

-Kris (FREE IDEA)

On April 19th of 2008, FREE IDEA had their first release show with 7 bands playing, and an audience of 112 people. By the end of the night, everyone was wearing a FREE IDEA tee.
