New Private Label Artist Tees from Art in the Age
April Debut Includes Designs from Ben Woodward and Julianne AhnKick off Spring with two new private label tees, from Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction! April’s release includes original designs from Philadelphia based artists, Ben Woodward and Julianne Ahn. Woodward’s “Roller and Hammer” and Ahn’s “Blue Tape” stay true to the Art in the Age brand with custom sewn and dyed fabrics.
Ben Woodward, founder of the Space 1026 Gallery in Philadelphia has made quite a name for himself in the art world. He has been featured in SPIN, Fecal Face and Juxtapoz, as well as numerous art sites and blogs. Known for his ambiguous animal-like creatures, Woodward presents child-like narratives through allegorical interpretations of human nature.
Ben Woodward’s “Roller and Hammer” takes shape through a reinterpretation of the communist flag. Woodward reinvents the symbol with revolutionary motifs loosely inspired by simple arrangement and colors of common arts and craft tools. “Roller and Hammer” is available for men on the custom Art in the Age color, “Cooked Spinach.”
Julianne Ahn has been featured in publications and galleries such as Fiber Arts Magazine, Vox Populi and Space 1026. Ahn’s work is known for its personification of objects collaged in a rhetorical landscape, using repetition and base materials. The design for the “Blue Tape” tee was appropriated from an original five-panel collage of stenciled motifs of blue tape collaged onto plywood inspired by Korean folk art screens from the Joseon period. This private label tee is available for women on a “Banana Smoothie” custom dyed tee and for men on “Tired Sage”.
Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction is best known for our work with individual artists, like Jim Houser and Andrew Jeffrey Wright, as well as collectives, like Paper Rad, to design unique t-shirts to bring art, in wearable form, to the masses. The new tees are available at an economy-friendly price of $34 online at http://www.artintheage.com.
Art in the Age recently opened it’s flagship store in Old City Philadelphia. In addition to carrying the entire Art in the Age line, the store features a gallery space, carefully curated selection of art books, housewares, complimentary men’s and women’s apparel and accessory lines, not found elsewhere in Philadelphia.
